We have many years of broad experience as well as unique expertise in bridge design and are now looking for you as a recent graduate civil engineer with the interest and desire to develop as a bridge engineer together with us at Norconsult.

This advertisement is written for you as a younger civil engineer who wants to learn everything about bridges, trough structures, pile decks, tunnels, retaining walls, and a variety of other structures in traffic or coastal environments. But even if you have worked for a few years, we welcome you to reach out.

Your Profile

We are looking for someone with an interest in calculations and geometric modeling, and preferably someone who wants to learn to both calculate and model. With your civil engineering education as a foundation, you will have a great opportunity to develop in a direction of your own choosing.

Depending on your profile, there are various types of tasks. In early stages, it often involves creating simple and quick yet accurate models of geometric conditions for one or more alternative construction solutions. An approach that in a later stage often needs to be supplemented to a more detailed model of the chosen solution.

Calculations constitute a large and important part of the work. Here, it is significant that you enjoy calculating and that you are really good at it. Having very good knowledge of mathematics, structural engineering, concrete, and steel construction is necessary. An interest in programming will also facilitate your work. It is also important that you are systematic and document in such a way that it becomes easy to follow your work and for your colleagues to collaborate with you and quality assure what you do.

In new construction assignments, it is about dimensioning new constructions. What dimensions and quantities are required? The assignments are reported in drawings or 3D models, in technical descriptions, and in calculation documents. Development is currently moving towards drawing-less project management.

In load-bearing assignments, it is about calculations and investigations of existing constructions. What can the constructions handle when we calculate with modern tools, and if we, through more detailed calculations, better utilize the material? The assignments are reported in report form. In cases of insufficient load-bearing capacity, discovered damages, and/or needs for improvements, we often participate in assignments that involve strengthening, repairing, or renovating existing constructions.

For calculations, you will work with programs that you may already be familiar with, such as Excel, Mathcad, and FEM-Design. But also with more specific bridge calculation programs such as SAP2000 and Sofistik. For modeling, you will work with AutoCAD, Revit, and Tekla.

Geometric modeling is central to our operations. Here, it is important to keep up with the developments within the changes that are happening today. Good knowledge of mathematics and three-dimensional thinking greatly facilitates the work. The constructions we work with often have quite complex geometries described by curves and curved surfaces. An interest in modeling based on programming will therefore facilitate your work. It is also important that you are systematic and build your models geometrically correctly. The manufacturing of structural parts may be directly controlled by the models you have developed.
